Dr. Brar's teaching responsibilities include teaching core horticulture/pomology courses and temperate and subtropical tree fruit and nut crop courses. His research primarily focuses on whole tree physiology and orchard systems in pistachio and other tree fruit and nut crops for Central Valley growers.

He has conducted specific research in chill accumulation and phenology in pistachios and the growth and development responses of containerized citrus nursery trees to modified light/photoperiod and plant growth regulators in controlled environment systems. His expertise and extension experience has also led him to study other topics tied to pollination, nut growth and development and studying plant responses to changing environmental conditions.
