Dr. Liang received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and an M.S.
in Management from Tsinghua University in Beijing. He has many years of experience
in business big data analysis.
In 2016, he received his Ph.D. in Agricultural, Environmental, and Regional Economics
from Pennsylvania State University and joined the Fresno State faculty.
Dr. Liang teaches courses in financial markets, agricultural business, and applications
of big data and artificial intelligence (AI). His research interests are in corporate
finance, urban economics, and big data and AI.
A Fresno State faculty member since 2014, he has taught seven different courses tied
to agricultural finance, applications of big data and artificial Intelligence, capital
markets, economics and food policy.
He is the lead on several research grants, including those from California State University
Agricultural Research Institute and the U.S. Department of Agriculture-National Institute
of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), which included a $3.88 million specialty crop research
initiative.
A winner of the Provost’s Award for Promising New Faculty, he received the Jordan
College’s Outstanding Research and Scholarly Activity Award in 2024 for his 15 research
papers, two book chapters, and 14 presentations from his first 10 years on staff.
Outside of work, Dr. Liang enjoys running marathons, playing instruments, and hiking
in the national parks near Fresno.
