Montserrat Perez Valadez Meat Science Graduate Student Spotlight
Montserrat Perez Valadez, MS in Agriculture Science student, was selected at the 2023 American Meat Science
Association Meat Cleaver Award recipient for the Master of Science division. She was
selected among all master’s students in the U.S. that are obtaining their degree this
year that have teaching responsibilities. The Meat Cleaver Award is given to postgraduate
students (including PhD students) that demonstrate excellence in teaching.
“Without a doubt, Ms. Perez is definitely deserving of this award and embodies the resilient nature that a meat cleaver is designed to encompass," said Dr. Amanda McKeith, Animal Science and Agricultural Education associate professor. "The metal of a cleaver is tough and has a thick blade, just like Montserrat, she has learned to adapt to new situations therefore becoming unique and more durable than her peers in and out of the classroom."
