Child and Family Sciences facilities
Campus Children's Center
The Campus Children's Center is a fully-staffed care facility for Fresno State students
who need daytime child care. This unique program, overseen by the Department of Child and Family Sciences, is staffed by full-time teachers, student employees, and students gaining class
training in the care of young children and management of child care facilities. The
center features two facilities located in the Family and Food Science Building and
near the student dorm residences. Each includes both indoor and outdoor play and education
areas. The center also includes a special child development laboratory; here future
professionals can work with young children and their families to develop and implement
best management practices replicable in Central Valley child care programs. The center
is accredited through the "National Association for the Education of Young Children."
Fees are charged for the care with subsidized rates available.
Child and Family Sciences Laboratory
The Department of Child and Family Sciences recently completed its Child and Family Sciences Laboratory. The facility, located
in the Family and Food Science Building, is comprised of an observation lab containing
an experimental area, an observation room with audio-visual recording equipment, and
a waiting room. From the observation room, large, one-way glass window enables both
student practitioners as well as parents to observe their own or other children in
play or under specially-prescribed care situations. The lab is also used for other
research activities such as small focus groups, interviews, and psycho-education intervention
or prevention based groups.
