Center For Irrigation Technology
About Us
CIT Celebrates 45 Years!
In April 2025, the Center for Irrigation Technology (CIT) will celebrate 45 years
of service to the irrigation industry, both in the United States and internationally.
CIT is committed to advancing irrigation technology, as well as water and energy management
practices, and setting equipment standards. The center integrates the needs of agricultural,
environmental, and urban stakeholders into all its activities.
CIT is IAPMO-certified to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards, enabling it to test products
according to EPA WaterSense labeling specifications for Spray Sprinkler Bodies, as
well as Climate-based and Soil Moisture-based controllers. Its product testing clientele
includes manufacturers from nearly every irrigated region in the world.
What we do
The Center for Irrigation Technology at Fresno State serves as an independent testing
laboratory, applied research facility, and educational resource for both public and
private sectors. It conducts educational programs for irrigation professionals and
growers on a wide range of topics, including pump efficiency, irrigation technology,
and water and energy management. Additionally, it offers independent third-party testing
services through both laboratory and field testing.
CIT collaborates closely with the Water, Energy, and Technology (WET) Center to provide
startups with technical assessments, one-on-one assistance, research, and product
development and testing. Furthermore, it manages the Advanced Pumping Efficiency Program
(APEP) for Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The APEP program has been successful
in promoting energy savings through more efficient use of water and energy.
