About Us
CIT Celebrates 45 Years!
In 2025, the Center for Irrigation Technology (CIT) celebrated 45 years of service
to the
irrigation industry, both in the United States and internationally. CIT has over 18,000
square feet of indoor laboratory space for testing a range of products, including
sprinklers, pumps, valves, filters, controllers, couplers, drip emitters, and tapes.
Testing
facilities include six acres of the Fresno State Agricultural Laboratory farmland
dedicated to applied research, educational demonstration programs, and pilot testing
projects. Its product-testing clientele includes manufacturers from nearly every irrigated
region worldwide.
CIT laboratory operations align with ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the international standard
for
testing and calibration laboratories, ensuring reliable, repeatable results.
What we do
The Center for Irrigation Technology at Fresno State serves as an independent testing
laboratory, applied research facility, and educational resource for both public and
private sectors. It conducts educational programs for irrigation professionals and
growers on a wide range of topics, including pump efficiency, irrigation technology,
and water and energy management. Additionally, it offers independent third-party testing
services through both laboratory and field testing.
CIT collaborates closely with the Water, Energy, and Technology (WET) Center to provide
startups with technical assessments, one-on-one assistance, research, and product
development and testing. Furthermore, it manages the Advanced Pumping Efficiency Program
(APEP) for Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The APEP program has been successful
in promoting energy savings through more efficient use of water and energy.
