Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education
Youth Farm Tours (*temporarily paused)
*Note: As of February 7, 2025, the campus livestock and poultry units are strictly off limits to all tours and unauthorized visitors (this includes the beef, dairy, horse, meat, poultry, sheep, and swine facilities).
- No outside public animals of any species will be allowed on or near the campus animal units without the knowledge or approval of the University Ag Laboratory Manager and/or the Farm Veterinarian (and this includes O’Neill Park and the Animal Science Pavilion on Barstow Ave).
- Enhanced safety measures are being implemented at the livestock units according to
risk factors (and the strictest protocols will be observed at our poultry and dairy
units, and unit leads, support staff and public safety officers are enforcing the
specific requirements implemented for each unit).
- The precautions are part of a ban announced by the California state veterinarian association on all California poultry and dairy cattle exhibitions due to the continued spread of H5N1 Avian Influenza.
- While there are significant gaps in our experts’ knowledge as to the method of transmission, effective preventative measures and overall impacts, especially with respect to humans, the Fresno State University Agricultural Lab, out of an abundance of caution for the public and Fresno State’s own livestock and faculty, students and staff, are hereby implementing the following safety precautions.
- These precautions will remain in place and enforced until further notice.
When tours resume, the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, in coordination with the Department of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education, looks forward to providing a quality, learning experience not only for our college students, but for community school groups as well.
We want everyone's visit to the Fresno State campus farm to be safe, educational, and enjoyable.
All tour groups for youth between the ages of kindergarten and fifth grade must be accompanied by a tour guide, and anyone visiting the farm without a scheduled tour guide may be asked to leave the farm. Our tours are given by our Fresno State college student tour guides, and are available during the semester from early September through mid-May. Tours are subject to availability, as we are working within our students availability/class schedules. With this in mind, tours are booked one semester at a time in order for us to coordinate with our student tour guides availability and class schedules.
As of July 2024, the minimum cost for a tour was $96.00, in order to cover our costs. This is equivelent to a group of 12 children at $8.00 per child. Any additional children over the group of 12 minimum are an additional $8.00 each.
Even if your group consists of less than 12 students, the cost would still be $96.00.
If parents are bringing siblings, notify the tour coordinator before the date of the
tour and parents must pay for the siblings.
Our tours are dedicated to providing information on each of the livestock units housed
at Fresno State, and the form below is used to schedule an on-campus tour.
Requirements for scheduling a tour:
- ALL children attending must be 5 years or older.
- Groups must consist of at least 12 students or the equivalent ($96.00).
- No stroller or wheelchair access on tours.
- Tours for junior high, high school and community college groups are available through a separate link.
