Enjoy a BBQ lunch while visiting with fellow alumni, friends, faculty and staff of the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. Join us in congratulating Mr. Earl Hall as the 2016 Top Dog for the Jordan College! After graduating from Fresno State in 1964 with a degree in Agricultural Business, Earl founded the Kerman-based agricultural personnel management company, Hall Management. Hall Management has become one of the largest of its kind in the state, operating in 26 counties and employing up to 25,000 workers at peak harvest. He is highly respected in the agricultural personnel management services industry and is regularly sought for his expertise in this area. Earl was recognized at the annual Top Dog Alumni Awards Gala on Saturday, Oct. 15. The week before the event, Earl visited with Jordan College students, toured the University Agricultural Laboratory and Gibson Farm Market, and enjoyed a lunch with the Bulldoggers Rodeo Team. During the opening ceremony of the Big Fresno Fair on Oct. 5, Ag One Board Member Pat Ricchiuti was recognized with the Community Champions Volunteer Award. The Community Champions Awards formally recognize individuals who have demonstrated an extraordinary passion for the betterment of Fresno County. Congratulations, Pat!
On Friday, Oct. 14, past Ag One President Marsha Vucovich was recognized at the 33rd annual Top Ten Professional Women and Leading Business Awards, a Marjaree Mason Center event at the Fresno Convention Center. This prestigious awards ceremony honors outstanding individuals in the community while also raising awareness for domestic violence. The event pays tribute to ten women who have served as role models and given back to their communities, all while making strides in their professions. Also honored was Bernadette Muscat, professor in the department of criminology and interim Associate Dean for the College of Social Sciences at Fresno State.
Mark your calendars for the 37th annual Kern County Alumni and Friends Luncheon at Sunview Vineyards in Delano on Thursday, Dec. 1! Join us for an opportunity to see all that Kern County has to offer students, the agricultural industry and the community! Enjoy a BBQ lunch while visiting with Fresno State, Bakersfield College and local high school students, then stay for a facility tour. The social begins at 11 a.m. followed by lunch and program at noon and the tour at 1 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person, RSVP by Nov. 21. The Common Threads Committee is now accepting nominations for the 21st Annual Common Threads Awards honoring women in agriculture. Honorees are selected from Fresno, Madera, Merced, Kern, Kings and Tulare counties for their remarkable contributions to agriculture and their community. Nominees must show outstanding involvement in agriculture, and have made a difference with their philanthropic and volunteer support. Please submit the nomination packet with a cover letter (including a picture) by November 23. For more information read the PDF version of the nomination form or for the nomination criteria.
Wells Fargo recently awarded the Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market at Fresno State with a $25,000 grant to help prepare students for a successful transition into the workplace. To achieve hands-on communication and analytical skills building, while enhancing the consumer experience, advanced technology will be added to the market as part of the grant. Software and analytical tools will be used to collect consumer preferences and information at tablet kiosks in the market . Hands-on real world data mining and gathering will greatly enhance students’ analytical competencies. Also, student-produced videos about the Jordan College will be on display at the market. Stakeholders of the Jordan College, including but not limited to local industry experts, will have the opportunity to advise and evaluate what is learned.
Congratulations to Ag One member and Jordan College supporter Booth Ranches of Orange Cove who has been chosen as the 2016 Baker Peterson Franklin Ag Business Award recipient. Ag One nominated Booth Ranches for this award because of their involvement in the improvement of educational opportunities for the young people of our Valley. They have volunteered time, provided leadership and generously donated to many deserving organizations, including their support of the Summer Bridge Program at Fresno State which introduces students to careers in agriculture. Booth Ranches, along with the Fresno Chamber’s Agriculturalist of the Year, Manuel Cunha of Nisei Farmers League, will be honored at a luncheon on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the Fresno Convention Center.
Fresno State’s Renaissance Scholars program recently received national attention after being featured in a Kleenex commercial titled “A Meaningful Move-In Day”.

- The Gibson Farm Market will host its Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 22, which will showcase a variety of Fresno State food and wine products, including a pumpkin patch
- The Fresno State Swine Show Team shined at the Big Fresno Fair and won reserve champion boar, grand and reserve champion purebred gilt and top showman honors in novice, intermediate and advance showmanship
- The Fresno State Livestock Judging Team will host the Big Fresno Fair judging competition at the Fresno State farm on Saturday, Oct. 22
- The inaugural issue of the Jordan College Student Research Journal is now available
