Equine Enterprise

Student Employment & Volunteering

The Fresno State Quarter Horse Unit and Fresno State Student Horse Center provide Fresno State students with hands-on, real-world experience in a professional equine setting. As largely student-operated facilities, they offer a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge while developing practical industry skills.

Students are actively involved in the day-to-day management of the Quarter Horse Unit. Responsibilities include feeding and caring for horses, loading hay and grain, cleaning and preparing stalls, and maintaining the facility grounds. Through this work, students gain valuable experience in animal care, time management, teamwork, and facility operations.

In addition to daily care, students assist with routine herd health procedures under the supervision of enterprise managers, coaches, and student managers. Tasks include deworming, administering vaccinations and medications, and treating minor injuries. This structured, supervised environment ensures a safe, supportive learning environment while giving students the opportunity to develop confidence and leadership skills.

Participation—whether as a volunteer or paid employee—provides students with professional development opportunities, leadership experience, and industry-relevant skills that strengthen future career prospects.

Paid positions are filled from the active volunteer pool. Students interested in employment are encouraged to begin volunteering early to gain experience and become involved with the program. We welcome and encourage all Majors of Fresno State students to get involved and take advantage of this unique, hands-on opportunity. Interested in joining our team?
