Spring 2023 Initial Student Teaching Placement: Golden West High School

Fall 2024 Final Student Teaching Placement: Exeter Union High School

Maggie Hirschler is currently in her final student teaching phase at California State University, Fresno. She is also enrolled in the Jordan College of Agriculture's master's program, pursuing her degree in Agricultural Education. She recently graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Spring 2023, having chosen this career path after being inspired by her high school experiences in FFA and witnessing her father's positive impact on his students' lives throughout his teaching career.

Throughout her student teaching journey, Maggie has had the privilege of working at two outstanding agriculture programs. Her initial placement was at Golden West High School in Visalia, where she taught Agricultural Mechanics, Animal Science, and Veterinary Science. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there, gaining insights into the behind-the-scenes routine of being an agriculture teacher and forming meaningful relationships with mentors she will cherish throughout her career.

Currently, for her final student teaching placement, Maggie is teaching at Exeter Union High School, teaching within the subject areas of Agriculture Mechanics 1, Introduction to Agriculture 2, Floral Design 1, Agriculture Chemistry, and Agriculture Biology. She is incredibly grateful for the remarkable individuals in the agriculture department and the constant support, mentorship, and encouragement she has received this semester. Notably, Maggie developed the first Greenhand Officer Team that Exeter FFA has had in thirteen years. Maggie also coached Opening and Closing public speaking teams and assisted with advising student livestock projects at the Tulare County Fair. She is excited to finish the semester strong and maximize her learning during her remaining time at Exeter.

Maggie’s ultimate goal is to become a high school agriculture education teacher. She is passionate about teaching various subjects, including Agriculture Mechanics, Welding and Fabrication, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Floral Design, and Ornamental Horticulture. Maggie strives to create an engaging, encouraging, and inspiring environment for all her students, hoping to create a lasting impact on their lives and guide them toward success. She is dedicated to instilling her passion for agriculture in her students and advocating for California’s rich agricultural heritage.
