Madelyn Fernandes
Student Teacher
Area of Emphasis: Animal Science
Spring 2025 Final Student Teaching Placement: Lindsey High School
Madelyn Fernandes grew up on her family’s ranch and dairy in Tulare, California. She was immersed in agriculture and attended school with agriculture programs where she could explore her interests. These opportunities inspired her to want to share the agriculture industry with future generations. Her goals are to share with students where their food comes from, the opportunities they have in agriculture, and how they can make informed decisions about their lives.
Madelyn graduated from Fresno State, majoring in agriculture education with a focus in animal science. During her time at Fresno State, Madelyn was a member of Sigma Alpha, an agriculture-based sorority. Madelyn worked with industry members to advocate for and promote agriculture in the classroom. Madelyn taught Introduction to Agriscience courses at Mt. Whitney High School during her initial student teaching. At Mt. Whitney, she learned more about sheep handling and showmanship while working with students and their projects. She has been able to help the officer team FFA and officer meetings.
After student teaching, Madelyn is interested in exploring career opportunities across the state and challenging herself to step out of her comfort zone while utilizing her expertise. Growing up on the family farm, she worked hands-on in crop management, tree irrigation, bookkeeping, dairy cattle management, employee management skills, and tractor operation. Madelyn plans to use these experiences to serve her future students and the agriculture program.
