Area of Emphasis: Mechanics
Fall 2024 Final Student Teaching Placement: Atwater High School
John believes that agricultural education is crucial for students to learn and grow, both in their academic pursuits and in developing professionalism and life skills. Through agricultural education, he has acquired and applied many important skills, such as respect, honesty, and public speaking. He is committed to ensuring that students have the same access to resources that he had, preparing them for the future that lies ahead. His goal is to create an environment that encourages critical thinking and fosters lifelong learning.
John completed his undergraduate degree at California State University, Fresno, in the field of agricultural education. Courses like AGED 189, which focused on teaching in a shop setting, were particularly influential. As an emphasis in agricultural mechanics, this class taught him how to structure lessons to suit shop students effectively.
He began his initial student teaching at Lemoore High School, where he taught a range of welding classes. For his final student teaching placement, he is currently at Atwater High School, teaching a variety of agricultural mechanics courses, including woodworking and welding.
FFA plays a significant role in his educational philosophy, extending beyond the classroom. He has coached a BIG team and had a team participate in opening and closing speaking competition. After completing his student teaching, John plans to pursue a position teaching agricultural mechanics. Through this role, he aims to engage community members in developing curriculum that best serves the needs of the local community.
