Student Teacher

Area of Emphasis: Agriculture Mechanics

Fall 2025 Initial Student Teaching Placement: Central High School

Spring 2026 Final Student Teaching Placement: Visalia Technical Early College

Emma Litchfield participated in FFA during high school where she took classes in ag mechanics and animal science. She showed sheep and chickens at the Kern County Fair. While in FFA, she also competed in horse judging, opening and closing ceremonies, and banking. These experiences sparked her passion for agricultural education and showed her the impact hands-on learning and FFA involvement can have on students.

She worked on her Associate's degree at Bakersfield College in Agricultural Mechanics. She completed her Bachelor's degree at Fresno State University in Agricultural Education, where she took courses in small engines, fabrication, hydraulics, power transmissions, and much more. This hands-on education gave her the technical skills and teaching foundation needed to effectively teach agricultural mechanics to high school students.

She completed her initial student teaching at Fresno Central High School, where she taught Agriculture Mechanics 1 and 2 and co-advised students with rabbit SAEs. For final student teaching, she was placed at Visalia Technical Early College where she taught various Ag mechanics, Ag science, and intro to Ag classes. These experiences helped her develop classroom management skills and learn how to engage students in technical subjects.

Emma's specialization is in agricultural mechanics. She has learned many skills including maintaining student attention, shop observation and safety, giving detailed instructions, and creating engaging hands-on lessons. Her technical expertise combined with her teaching skills allows her to effectively guide students through complex agricultural mechanics concepts and projects.

Her career goals after student teaching are to work at an agriculture program with 3-5 other teachers at a school with a shop and a school farm. She wants to work at a program where SAEs are very important and are a main focus. Building strong student projects and hands-on learning opportunities will be central to her teaching approach.

During her free time, Emma enjoys hanging out with her family and her cat. She also enjoys reading and playing board games. These activities help her relax and recharge outside of the classroom.
