Amy Suarez is in the final phase of her student teaching journey at California State University, Fresno, where she is also pursuing a master’s degree in Agricultural Sciences through the Jordan College of Agricultural Science and Technology. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Spring 2023, inspired to follow this career path by her formative experiences in FFA and the mentorship of her FFA advisors during high school. Amy’s passion for agriculture stems from her grandfather, who instilled in her a deep appreciation for the industry—a legacy she is eager to pass along to her future students.
Throughout her student teaching experience, Amy has had the opportunity to work with two outstanding agriculture programs. Her initial placement was at Clovis East High School, where she taught Animal Science, Exploratory Ag Science, and Sustainable Ag Biology.
Additionally, she served as an assistant advisor for students participating in goat SAE projects. Under her guidance, several students excelled in showmanship and achieved notable accolades, including winning Supreme Champion at the Fresno County Fair. This placement provided her with valuable insights into the day-to-day responsibilities of being an agriculture teacher and allowed her to form lasting relationships with her mentors.
Currently, Amy is completing her final student teaching placement at Modesto High School, where she teaches a variety of subjects, including Agriscience, Ornamental Horticulture, Floral Design, Agriscience Systems Management, and Agriculture Mechanics 1-2. She has greatly benefited from the support and mentorship of the agriculture department staff and is grateful for the encouraging and collaborative environment they have fostered. Amy also coaches the Best Informed Greenhand team, further enriching her teaching experience. She is excited to finish the semester strong and make the most of her remaining time at Modesto High.
Amy’s ultimate career goal is to become a high school agriculture education teacher. She is passionate about teaching subjects such as Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Floral Design, Ornamental Horticulture, Agriscience, Agriculture Biology, and Agriculture Chemistry. Her mission is to create an engaging and supportive learning environment that inspires students to achieve their full potential. By sharing her enthusiasm for agriculture, Amy hopes to make a lasting impact on her students' lives, guiding them toward success and fostering an appreciation for California’s rich agricultural heritage.
