Alexa Aparicio was inspired to pursue a career in Agricultural Education through the
guidance of her high school advisors. As a shy freshman, she signed up to show a pig
without knowing what to expect. That single decision transformed her high school experience.
The agriculture program soon became her second home, and with the encouragement of
her advisors and peers, she stepped out of her comfort zone and grew into a confident
leader.
After graduating from Fresno State in 2021, Alexa spent three years working as a substitute
teacher at her former high school. During this time, she discovered her passion for
teaching and connecting with students. Motivated by this experience, she returned
to Fresno State to complete the credential program in Agricultural Education.
Alexa completed her initial student teaching at Caruthers High School, where she taught
Introduction to Agriculture and Veterinary Science. One of her greatest challenges
was balancing lesson pacing while ensuring content remained engaging and accessible
for all students. She also co-coached the Impromptu Speaking team and supported students
running for sectional office, proudly celebrating when one student placed 5th at the
Regional Speaking Contest and another was elected Sectional Sentinel.
Through her student teaching, Alexa has learned the importance of leading by example
and encouraging students to embrace new opportunities. She plans to continue her career
in the West Fresno-Madera Section. Outside of teaching, Alexa enjoys crafting, spending
time with her family, and visiting Disneyland.
