H. Clay Daulton Retires from Ag Foundation Board
H. Clay Daulton became a member of the Board of Directors of the Agricultural Foundation of California State University, Fresno on March 23, 1983. On countless occasions throughout his 35 year tenure as a member of the Ag Foundation Board, Clay dedicated his time, leadership, expertise and wisdom to the foundation. He was instrumental in his service when the Ag Foundation received its approval for the commercial sales and production of Fresno State Wine and was the very first university to do so in the United States. Clay has constantly and generously contributed his time and expertise to the foundation, all to the benefit of each enterprise unit of the University Farm Laboratory, thereby assisting in the attainment of the educational mission of Fresno State. The Ag Foundation acknowledges with great appreciation the contributions that Clay has made to Fresno State during his service as a distinguished member of the Board of Directors, which contributions have directly helped students realize their educational aspirations. Derek and Heather Carr award first scholarship to Jordan College student
Juan "J.J." Lino looks back at his childhood and remembers feeling empty. For every positive in his life, he recalls a setback. But his outlook today has changed. After receiving what he calls a "blessing" from prominent Fresno State alumni Derek and Heather Carr, Lino feels empowered to become the first person in his family to earn a degree. At the Bulldogs' Oct. 13 football game against Wyoming, Lino, a Fresno State freshman, was announced as the first-ever recipient of the Derek and Heather Carr Scholarship, an award renewable for up to four years upon qualifying for support. The Carrs' gift will allow him to focus on pursuing a bachelor's degree in viticulture without having to work full-time while going to school.
Multicultural Scholars visit
students from Parlier High School joined members of the Fresno state Multicultural Scholars in Agriculture program December 4 for a tour of campus, the farm and discussion about attending Fresno State to study agriculture. Thank you to the ag leaders who sponsor the Multiculturalism Scholars in Agriculture program that encourages Fresno State students to mentor high school students pursing careers in ag science and technology in the valley. Created in 2014, the endowed partnership was created by gifts from American AgCredit, CoBank, Farm Credit West, Fresno Madera Farm Credit and Golden State Farm Credit and was partially matched by Title V- Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) grant by the U.S. Department of Education.
Fresno state Ag Fest Men's Basketball game - January 12
Mark your calendars for the 2019 Ag Fest Men's Basketball Game on January 12, 2019 at 5 p.m. Cheer on the Fresno State Bulldogs at the Save Mart Center as they challenge returning Mountain West Conference Champion Nevada. the Ag Fest game will feature Jordan College students, faculty and staff in promotions throughout the game. Several animal units from the campus farm will participate in a petting zoo outside of the Save Mart Center, and information tables throughout the lobby will feature clubs, departments and the Gibson Farm Market. Recognizing Ag Commissioner Les and Marilyn Wright
Les Wright, agricultural commissioner for Fresno County, and his wife Marilyn, agricultural commissioner for Tulare County, have served the agriculture community in the Central Valley for decades. In honor of their service, funds are being raised at Fresno State to support the Fresno State Rodeo team, which is one of Les' passions. A retirements reception honoring Les and Marilyn will be held on January 12 at the Clovis Rodeo Hall; social and appetizers will be available from 3-6 p.m. and a recognition program will be held at 5 p.m.
Rodeo has a long history at Fresno State; it is the University's oldest club sport, with a rodeo held every year since 1949. The team has a group of supporters who are working to enhance the program and learning opportunities for these students. A generous family foundation with local ties made a $250,000 gift to establish an endowment for the Fresno State Bulldoggers rodeo Team, and committed to match an additional $500,000 if that amount is raised by May 2019. Scholarship in memory of Arianna Koster
On October 2, 2018, the Jordan College and Fresno State Family lost a young alumna, Arianna Marie Koster, who passed unexpectedly. She was a former member of the Fresno State Livestock Judging team and devoted student. she was following in her father's footsteps as an active member of the community. She was a member of the San Joaquin county Farm Bureau, as well as the New Jerusalem 4-H Sheep and Goat Leader. Arianna was also like her father in the way she comprehended being a good steward of the family's generational Koster Ranch. she understood and was deeply passionate about the farming way of life. Arianna spirit will always be a part of that land that she so deeply loved, which helped mold her into the women she became. The students of the Jordan College are establishing a scholarship to honor Arianna's memory and, along with her family, request that remembrances be sent to the Ag One for support of students who have been or would like to be a part of the Fresno State Livestock Judging Team.
Poultry Program receives gift from USPOULTRY Foundation
The Fresno State Poultry Science Program recently received a $7,000 gift through the Industry Education recruitment Funding Program from the USPOULTRY Foundation, through a gift given by Agri Stats, Inc. This gift will support recruitment efforts and encourage students to pursue careers in the poultry industry. The poultry program is entering year eight of a student- managed broiler facility, which is a collaborative partnership with Foster Farms. The program promotes hands-on training and provides practical instruction in applied research. Students who have completed training within the broiler chicken facility are highly competitive and sought after upon graduation for job placement. Fresno Monsters Hockey hosts Ag Night to benefit Ag One
Fresno Monsters Hockey has partners with My Job Depends on Ag to highlight the importance of agriculture in the valley. The Ag Night game on January 12 includes a sponsorship opportunity to purchase a player-worn jersey along with an ad on the jumbotron and 10 loge tickets, with proceeds benefiting Ag One! Helping Hams drive provides 250 hams to local charities
Eight local organizations received 250 hams to share with families in need this holiday season as part of Fresno State's sixth annual Helping Hams campaign. The organizations picked up their hams on December 14. The campaign ran November 15 through December 6 and raised $7,505, reaching its goal of $7,500 to purchase 250 hams. The largest contribution was a $3,500 donation from RCO Ag Credit, Inc., an agriculture finance company based in Fresno and supporter of Ag One. The organization has been the primary supporter the past five years.

Artificial Insemination Workshop
In collaboration with All West Select Sires and Zoetis, the Fresno State Dairy Science Program is hosting an Artificial Insemination Workshop on January 15-16, 2019. The workshop will run from 12- 5 p.m. each day and involve a combination of lecture and hands-on practice. Two simultaneous sessions will be offered each day: one in Spanish language and one in English language. Sign up early as class size is limited as to provide live animal practice. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will receive their Artificial Insemination Certificate as recognized within the dairy industry. Dairy Calf Workshop
the Fresno State Dairy Science program is partnering with APC, Inc. to host a one-day workshop focusing on dairy calf health. three primary sessions will be offered 1) Managing the first 24 hours, 2) Keeping calves healthy in the first critical weeks and 3) Positioning calves fro health and growth through weaning. The working lunch session will provide an opportunity for participants to meet with experts in table topic sessions: bench marking practices, career options for students, life on the dairy and ranch, and calf supplements. This is a great educational opportunity for dairy and calf ranch owners as well as calf operation managers, key calf workers, and dairy science students. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and the workshop will run from 9:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. The workshop will be followed by a dairy production tour and social hour from 2;30- 3;30 p.m. Registration cost $75/ person and registration can be done online via the Institution for Food and Agriculture website or via phone at 559.278.44055.
Year- End Giving
As the end of 2018 quickly approaches, we often think about the holidays and festivities, and we sometimes think about ways to give to our beloved institution. If you are planning or considering a year-end gift to support the Jordan College, please reach out to us. We would be honored to help guide you through your year-end contribution or any other giving you might be considering. Certain gifts of securities (especially mutual funds) can take several weeks to process ans we are here to help. Upon reaching age 70 1/2 an individual is required to begin taking their Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) annually from their IRA. An individual can always donate their RMD to a charitable organization by transforming their RMD directly to the charity.
