On November 17, 2015 Ag One and the Jordan College lost a dear friend. Mrs. Dee Jordan passed away in San
Francisco at the age of 87. Dee and late husband Bud along with her brother-in-law Lowell were responsible
for the largest cash gift in Fresno State's history - $29.5 million to Ag One in support of the Jordan College. This gift remains the largest single cash gift
ever received by the California State University system. She, Bud and Lowell have
forever transformed agriculture at Fresno State. We will greatly miss her. More
Fresno County farmer and Viticulture alumnus Ron Metzler lost his battle with ALS
on November 24, 2015 at the age of 78. Ron was a founding director of Ag One and established an endowment in the name of his parents, Edna and Henry Metzler, in 1986 the year he served as President. He was also a long time supporter of the
Department of Viticulture and Enology in the Jordan College, Fresno State Athletics
and the Bulldog Foundation. He received the Department of Viticulture and Enology
Outstanding Service Award and Viticulture Alumnus of the Year honor. His contributions
to Fresno Stateagriculture will not be forgotten. More
Fresno State alumnus and longtime supporter Dr. Harry B. Moordigian, Jr. passed away
on November 11, 2015 at the age of 76. An active supporter of Fresno State since the 1970’s, Harry’s contributions
benefited numerous University programs including the Bulldog Foundation, Armenian
Studies, Athletics, the Kremen School of Education and Human Development and the Jordan
College. In 2007 he honored his parents, Harry and Nevart Moordigian, by establishing
an Ag One endowment to support students in the Department of Viticulture and Enology. More: press release; Collegian article
Six women have been selected as the 2016 honorees for the 20th Annual Common Threads Award, which recognizes women from the San Joaquin Valley for theiragricultural, philanthropic and community service. The Common Threads Award recipients
are Laurie Airoso, Tipton; Felomena Barcellos, Tipton; Georgene Diener, Five Points;
Matilda Maddox, Riverdale; Lilia Giacomazzi, Hanford – Tapestry Award; and our very
own interim dean Dr. Sandra Witte, Clovis – Honorary Award. The honorees will be recognized
at the 20th Annual Common Threads Awards Luncheon on Thursday, March 16, 2016 at the International Agri Center Heritage Complex in Tulare.
The Agricultural Foundation of California State University, Fresno announced the addition
of Joe L. Del Bosque and Dianne S. Nury to its board of directors. Del Bosque is the
owner of Del Bosque Farms in Firebaugh and a 1975 Fresno State plant science and agronomy graduate. Nury, a 1982 Fresno State business administration and marketing graduate,
has served as president and CEO of the family-owned Vie-Del Company in Fresno since
1991. More
Fresno State’s third annual Helping Hams campaign which ran from November 19 – December 4 raised $6,645 and exceeded its goal of 175 hams. The largest contribution was a $3,500
donation from RCO Ag Credit, Inc. (more about RCO's gift). Ten local organizations have been selected to distribute 221 hams to families in need
this holiday season. More
