Vincent E. Petrucci Viticulture Building officially named

It’s official, Fresno State celebrates the naming of the Vincent E. Petrucci Viticulture building! Professor Petrucci’s five children, President Castro and Dean Sandy Witte were joined by two hundred alumni and friends on Friday, April 20 to celebrate Petrucci and his impact on campus.

Bayer Crop Science Meeting

 Bayer semi-annual meeting on campus

On April 23, representatives from Bayer CropScience attended the semi-annual partners meeting with faculty and staff from the Jordan College held at the Jordan Agricultural Research Center. The regular meeting held each academic semester allows the partners to focus and enhance the five strategic areas of engagement which include: research, student engagement, promotions and marketing, talent development and training. During this meeting, it was announced that a student has been identified for the two-year graduate fellowship sponsored by Bayer, which will begin in the fall. Following the gathering, guests went on a tour of the campus farm and reviewed research projects on fungicides and root health.

Join us for a swinging good time at this year’s Turf Day Golf Classic! Player registration includes lunch at the turn, social hour and dinner following play plus a fabulous tee prize. Check-in at 10 a.m., shotgun start at 11 a.m. $160 per player through May 4, $175 starting May 5. The tournament is limited to the first 144 players and proceeds will benefit deserving students and programs in the Jordan College. Earl Hall, Clovis Rodeo Grand Marshal

Alumnus Earl Hall, Grand Marshal of the 104th Clovis Rodeo

The 104th Clovis Rodeo Grand Marshal, Earl Hall, is a familiar face around the sport of rodeo. At eighteen he became a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and has been involved in rodeo ever since. A past board member, and long time supporter of the Clovis Rodeo, he continues to compete today in team roping events in the Gold Card 50-years plus category. Hall graduated from Fresno State in 1964 with a degree in Ag Business and was recognized in 2016 as the Jordan College Top Dog. Congratulations Earl!

Miss Clovis Rodeo 2018

Jordan College student crowned 2018 Miss Clovis Rodeo

Jordan College sophomore Katie DeMott was crowned the 2018 Miss Clovis Rodeo on April 26. Katie is majoring in animal science with a minor in chemistry. The Clovis Rodeo celebrates the tradition of having a dynamic young lady serve as Miss Clovis Rodeo. Candidates who compete for the coveted title each year must not only display exceptional horsemanship skills, but be involved in their communities. Miss Clovis Rodeo represents the Clovis Rodeo and Clovis community at events and rodeos throughout California. Congratulations Katie!

Esqueda appointed

Fresno State appoints Esqueda to lead water and sustainability

In its quest to solidify its reputation as a national leader in applied research on water, Fresno State has appointed Thomas C. Esqueda as its first associate vice president in Water and Sustainability. Esqueda is a native of the Central Valley. “Thomas Esqueda brings a wealth of water experience in private industries, local and state government and higher education,” said Fresno State Provost Lynnette Zelezny. “A high-energy leader, he is eager to champion our quest to be ‘the Water University.’”

IT advisory Board Scholarship

Industrial Technology Advisory Board establishes scholarship

The department of Industrial Technology (IT) held its annual banquet on April 10 to celebrate successes this academic year. During the banquet, the IT advisory board announced their establishment of a scholarship which will benefit IT students. IT is a field of study designed to prepare technical and/or management oriented professionals for employment in business, industry, education and government. It is primarily involved with the management, operation, and maintenance of complex technological systems. Typically, the graduate finds employment as a manufacturing engineer, process engineer, production supervisor, quality systems engineer, technical specialist or plant manager. Positions in industrial and technical sales, design and testing also offer the graduate abundant opportunities.

Portuguese Club

Portuguese Club being established on campus

Jordan College students have taken the lead to establish a Portuguese Club, open to students university wide. On April 26, eight students along with club advisor Alcidia Freitas Gomes met to discuss the club's formation and goals within the Associated Students Inc. (John Cordeiro is also an advisor but was unable to attend). The purpose of the club is to educate students about the Portuguese culture and community, and to connect Fresno State students within the Portuguese community in the region.
