Chris Dobbins, DVM Endowment
Dr. Chris Dobbins, medical director at Fresno Pet ER, now known as BluePearl Pet Hospital, established a scholarship endowment for pre-veterinary students at Fresno State. Dr. Dobbins graduated from Fresno State in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 1997. He kept himself very busy while completing his undergraduate degree, working under Dr. Scott Williamson at the swine unit and connecting with Dr. Michael Thomas among other faculty members for mentorship. Additionally, he did student research which led to developing a testing method for Tritrichomonas foetus in bulls and he worked as a veterinary technician at an emergency hospital.
He started Fresno Pet ER in 2007 and was the owner until December 2021 when he sold it to BluePearl Specialty + Emergency Pet Hospital where he is currently the medical director. BluePearl Pet Hospital is also the official veterinarian for our very own mascot, Victor E. Bulldog. His gift is special to the Animal Science Department, which requires that pre-vet students complete not only an initial application into the college, but additionally qualify to specialize in veterinary medicine. “I am hoping that this scholarship helps students through their undergraduate studies and will help them stay focused on their studies! Go ’Dogs!”
