Industrial Technology is a field that focusses on applying engineering principles and technical skills to support managers and industrial engineers in their tasks. If you are interested in managing people and technology (be it industrial or computer)
to improve operations, this is the program for you. Our curriculum aims to arm you
with the necessary technical and managerial skills through a unique blend of courses
that provides you with ample hands-on activities that reinforces learning gained in
the classroom.
Industrial Technology is geared more towards the application of engineering principles.
In fact, our professional society recently changed their name from National Association
of Industrial Technology (NAIT) to Association of Technology, Management and Applied
Engineering (ATMAE). This new name is a more accurate reflection of what Industrial
Technology is all about - managing technology and applying engineering principles.
The curriculum in Industrial Technology is geared towards providing you with the skills
necessary for a wide variety of jobs such as (not limited to) production supervisor,
process engineer, quality engineer, production engineer, and many more.
The B.S. in Industrial Technology program requires a total of 120 units. This includes
51 units of General Education, and 69 units of program-specific courses.
The curriculum includes a total of 51 units of General Education courses.
Our curriculum emphasizes probability and statistics instead of calculus.
Yes, you can transfer units from your community college where you obtained your Associate's

Technical core includes courses that strengthen the technical skills such as manufacturing
processes, basic electronics, industrial materials, and design. This also includes
some preparatory courses such as statistics and general chemistry. Management core
focusses on developing skills geared towards supervisory and managerial positions.
This includes courses such as project management, quality, safety and production operations.
The technical core includes courses such as electricity and electronics, manufacturing
process, industrial materials, product design, energy conversion and utilization and

The management core includes courses such as facilities planning, quality assurance,
safety management, project management, production operations, and advanced manufacturing

The curriculum requires you to take 15 units of electives. You may take more than
the minimum number of electives.
You should choose your electives based on your career goals and area of interest after
consulting your advisor.
Please consult your advisor before picking your electives from outside the department.
You should find your advisor listed on your my.fresnostate.edu profile. You can also
find who your advisor is by stopping by the department office.
You should plan on meeting your advisor at least once a semester to see if you are
on the right track. This is especially important as you enter your junior and senior
years.
An online course is where the material is posted on Blackboard and much of the learning
takes place outside the classroom. Most online courses do not meet in a regular classroom.
Some might however require you to attend a few classroom sessions.
Most online courses do not meet face-to-face. Occasionally, there may be in-class
sessions scheduled depending on the instructor.
No! Online courses are just as rigorous as face-to-face courses. These are typically
more challenging because you have a greater responsibility to keep yourself up-to-date
about the happenings in the course in an online environment.
