Have you ever thought you might enjoy a career teaching high school agriculture?

Many students find that their passion for agriculture and their interest in teaching others about it lead them to discover a rewarding career in secondary agricultural education. A great way to see if a career as an agriculture teacher is right for you is to shadow a real teaching professional. The Agricultural Education Orientation experience offers you the opportunity to learn from experienced teacher educators in a classroom setting and also learn hands-on from actual high school agriculture teachers. In doing so you'll learn what it's like to be an agriculture teaching professional.

What does the program provide?

1. This program consists of a 2 hour per week class with our veteran faculty and at least 45 hours of supervised observation of an experiencea high school agriculture teacher.
2. A monetary student stipend which will cover the cost of your tuition and course fees at College of the Sequoias, which means it costs you nothing to take this course.
3. You will be assigned an Ag. Teacher Mentor who will advise you as you observe and discover the opportunities for yourself in agricultural education.
4. One student will be selected to receive a $40,000 scholarship covering all of their educational and living expenses for two years.

How can you participate?

1. To enroll in the AEO class you must attend College of the Sequoias in Visalia, California. If you are not a current COS student you can apply at their website: www.cos.edu
2. If you are a current COS student you can participate in the AEO program by enrolling in AG 107 during the Spring 2012 semester. This course is scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:10pm to 5pm at the COS Farm Campus room 2003.
